A Benefit for PAWS

In possibly the most dog-friendly city in the country, the First Annual Canine Film Festival came to the Castro Theatre for the weekend of October 7-8. It was the first major dog film festival in the United States and celebrated the important roles that dogs have played during their decades on the silver screen. Fred Willard, JoAnne Worley, and KRON-TV?s Jan Wahl appeared in person to lend a paw to this fabulous event. The festival also featured a dog-themed drag queen contest, where some of the City?s most colorful characters competed for the title of ?Queen of the Fest.? It was for a great cause, because 100% of the proceeds benefited PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support), a volunteer-based organization that provides for the comprehensive needs of companion animals for low-income persons with HIV/AIDS and other disabling diseases.
