DC Activist Cheryl Spector Dies of Leukemia

Washington – Cheryl Ann Spector, well known in the Washington, DC area for her dedication to Gay, Lesbian and other humanitarian causes and for her archiving the history of the gay movement in America, died early today at George Washington University Hospital of leukemia.

Ms. Spector, 49, was diagnosed with the illness in late June and underwent two rounds of chemotherapy before succumbing to the disease.

She was to be honored on September 29 with the “Unsung Hero Award” at the annual gala of The Mautner Project, the national lesbian health organization that envisions a healthcare system guided by social justice and responsive to the needs of all people.
