CT Bill Would Ban Bias Against Transgendered

With a Ph.D. in chemistry, Jerimarie Liesegang never had trouble finding a job. That is, until she became a woman.

“They would literally come in, see that I was a transsexual, and they sort of let the facade effect them and nobody ever called me back,” said Liesegang, who was at the Capitol Friday to testify in favor of a bill prohibiting discrimination against transgendered people.

The bill would add gender identity or expression to the law that prohibits discrimination based on race, gender, religion, age and other characteristics.

“It helps protect people to allow them to be able to express their gender in different ways,” said Liesegang, a Hartford resident who is president of the Connecticut TransAdvocacy Coalition.
