SAN FRANCISCO – A transgender woman who claims she was harassed at work after starting to dress as a female has sued her employer, alleging the company allowed a hostile work environment.
Danielle Ryan, 44, of Sacramento said Monday she was mocked and taunted by co-workers at engineering firm Parsons Brinckerhoff where she worked as a network systems analyst. The alleged harassment began in January 2005. She had already worked at the Sacramento office for 10 years, but her co-workers knew her as a man.
Her lawyer, Waukeen McCoy, said Ryan had been taking female hormones for years and self-identified as female, but didn’t reveal that at work. McCoy said she gave her boss about a week’s notice before she began using a different name and wearing a different hairstyle and clothing.
